River runoff modeling in the European territory of Russia

The paper describes river runoff modeling for a plains region of the European territory Russia (ETR), as well prediction ungauged drainage basins. study is one key research objectives in determining patterns sediment yield formation. Among many other zonal factors, considered to be main factor formation humid climate. In this study, results entire and various landscape zones are presented via use multiple regression methods. Multiple methods do not require mathematical description physical processes terms their spatial heterogeneity. At same time, such can distinguished by simplicity parameters providing clear interpretations results. methodology work based on basin approach. Initial data its factors open-access geoinformation database “Drainage basins Russia”, which has been created earlier authors. geodatabase was formed with from 1440 gauging stations. independent variables, relief morphometric characteristics, climatic indicators reflecting average values, scale, seasonal variations, extreme values temperature precipitation, percentage forest swamp cover, plowing, meadows, assessment anthropogenic impact basin, geographical coordinates centroid, prevailing soil type, type soil-forming rock, class pre-Quaternary deposits used here. Data processing model development conducted using R software environment. Models obtained linear nonlinear explain about 85–88% variability interpreted water balance equation. It found here that most significant predictors annual sum active temperatures (characterizing losses evaporation), slope gradient, cover catchment. For Environmental Resources Management, it required collected at local (municipal) level. extrapolation Calculations predicted given discharge per unit area logarithm model. cartographic representation reflect distribution level detail accepted study. applied could similar studies territories across world.
